I'm working on Father's Day projects. One of our nurses helped me take this picture. I couldn't wait until tomorrow to post this one.
Katie decided Sunday would not be soon enough to extubate. She extubated Friday afternoon. I was kangarooing with her when it happened. We've been working on building up her neck muscles, and evidently, it's working. She can now turn her head from side to side by herself, which is what she did when I has holding her, which is what caused her to extubate herself. She did really well when she first extubated. She desatted a little, but didn't crash like she has before.

We haven't made it through the first 24 hours yet. I went back up to the hospital last night and stayed with her until early this morning. She was struggling quite a bit, so they put her in an oxygen tent. Her oxygen saturations (sats) have been great the whole time, she just has stridor again. This time, it seems to come and go, but when she has it, it sounds scary.

Please pray that this is the last time she has to go through this.

  1. This is my all time favorite picture!!!! I cannot begin to imagine the stress you are under right now at the hospital as Katie works to breathe on her own. I know you and Kevin are scared, but God is with Katie. She has shown us that she and He had a plan that the doctors didn't necessarily know about! Her stubborn streak will pull her through, along with prayers.

    Love ya!
