We're officially back in school mode now. That means having to wake up and dress a cranky 2-year-old, drop her off at Nan-nan's, rush to school, run around, come home, cook, clean, bathe again-cranky-2-year-old, and convince cranky-2-year-old she needs to go to bed, then finish anything I haven't yet.

It's not that Katie is always cranky....but this week has been a doozy. On Monday, I dressed her FOUR times. Each time, she'd strip off the outfit and put her pajamas back on. (In record time, I might add.) Now, normally, getting herself dressed and undressed takes considerable effort. For some reason, she got it down Monday morning. After the 4th time, I left her in her pajamas, and she went to Nan-nan's in pajamas. She's also entered a screaming phase. (Or at least I'm hoping it's a phase.) When she doesn't get her way or gets aggravated, she screams. She sounds like a primate. And it usually happens when I'm on the phone. We've had to have several "adjustments" over this.

Other misc. Katie updates:
  • she can jump and actually leave the ground now (before "jumping" was bending her knees quickly); she can also gallop and kind of leap
  • she can cound to 17 by herself
  • she can sing most of the alphabet by herself
  • she LOVES Band-aids (Yes, Mom and Dad, I remember the "no blood, no Band-aid" rule)
  • she never finds a rock she doesn't want
  • if you want to see her get mad, dress her in shorts that don't have pockets.....she loves loading up her pockets
  • she thinks she controls the car radio; I constantly hear, "Youder (louder), Mom!" "Sing, Momma!" "Turn it off!" "Need music, Momma!"
  • which reminds me....she doesn't just want things now, she needs them (I need ice cream, Momma.)
  • her current favorite phrases are "Oh, my goodness!" and "No way!"
  • At dinner tonight, I asked her if she wanted juice or milk. She kept answering "Toke" (Coke). After several rounds of this, she accepted that "Toke" wasn't a choice, so I asked her again after she quit answering me. She responded with her arms crossed, "I'm tinking (thinking), Momma!" I evidently underestimated the thought that goes into that choice.

Thanks to those of you that still check in on us. :-)

  2. Patience, dear heart! All this "independence", "stubborness","oreneryness"...whatever you want to call it are needed for Miss Katie to fully develop into the intelligent young girl we already know she is....the question is not whether SHE will survive it, but will the PARENTS......your dad and I did, and I know you and Kevin will, as well.......Love ya!
