I don't have much new to report. Katie is walking a little more and a little better each day. She spends much of the evenings being my shadow. She'll fold laundry with me, brush her hair with me, try to grade papers with me, and helps me with the dishwasher. She has discovered belly buttons. Don't be surprised if she tries to pull your shirt up to examine yours. She's also discovered that she can "tickle" me. (When she gets wound up, it's more like gouging, but she mean it to tickle.) She's made me laugh the past few mornings. Upon waking up, she HAS to have her sippy cup with juice in it. No juice waiting=grouchy Katie. The way she totes her cup around reminds me of an adult with a coffee cup.

I still haven't found a balance between Katie, home, and school. I just can't keep up with all 3. Right now, I don't even feel like I'm keeping up with any of them. I hate being unprepared and feeling like a total scatterbrain. I'm not the teacher I would want my kid to have, and I'm not the mom Katie deserves, or even a decent wife. I don't have a magic wand, though, and I don't know what else I can do.

  1. Well, I don't know about your other classes, but, even though you don't think so, you really ARE doing a good job for DP. As for Katie's mother, she couldn't have a better one! Don't get down, get...

okay, I can't think of a humorous thing to add to the end of that. Just keep happy =)

    Love you!

you were an excelent teacher! I am sure you still are. I really miss your class. And i bet Katie and Kevin love you to pieces! All that matters is that you are trying!! There should be a saying that says " its the try that matters". lol. Thats funny about the juice. I hope you have a good weekend.

  3. Jessica,

At the end of the day all that counts is that you have done your best. You are good at all the things that you do or you wouldn't be worried about them. I don't know that you will ever find the right balance, I never did. Instead you do the best that you can. Value your time with your little girl, it is a finite amount. I am proud of you and the way you have turned out.

    Love Dad

  4. Hey Jess,

Don't believe the hype. There is NO such thing as super woman. You do the very best that you can, and no one can ask more. When you get frustrated, take a big deep breath, let it out slowly and remember. Today is a PRESENT, and tomorrow isn't promised to us. So give your students the best of who you ARE (not who you think you should be)during the day. Come home and enjoy your daughter and husband in the evening. As long as everyone got fed and had a place to lay their head at bed time, it is a good day. And remember you are loved and your family could not be prouder of you!!!

    Love, Aunt Mary
