Although Katie is feeling better and eating better, she had a very fussy day. She fusses to be held, then fusses to get down. Nothing has made her happy all day with maybe the exception of getting into some cords and dragging out my printer paper.

I'm in the process of re-baby-proofing the house. This means everything gets moved up above about 3 feet. Since she can get around more now, she can reach stuff on tables, higher shelves, cabinets, drawers, etc.

Here's an example of a battle I've found myself facing lately: I give Katie some puffies (cereal snack) and she throws them on the floor. I tell her "No", and she cries like I've just beat her. If nobody rescues her, she'll dry it up in a minute or so. She'll pick up a piece of cereal like she's going to eat it, then throw it. I tell her "No" again, then she'll pick up a fist full and throw all of it. I wish I could capture the look on her face at this point. It's like, "Oh, don't throw it like this?" I take away the rest of the ceral and she bawls again. Then she'll want to be picked up and held, as if to make up.

The same thing happens with the mini blinds. She'll pull on them and I'll tell her "No." She cries for about a minute, then tries again, only sneakier. Her 2nd try, she'll smile at me while reaching behind her to pull on the blinds. I'll move her away from the blinds and she cries like she's totally devastated.

On days like today, I try to remind myself that her stubbornness is why I have her.

After I typed this last sentence, I had to stop again and try to get her down for the night again. Just when I'm about ready to close the door and let her "cry it out", she turns into the sweet baby again. (By the way, I'd like to find 1 parent who has been successful in the "cry it out" way of doing it. I can't tolerate that much crying.) She's old enough now, that when I rock her before bed, she'll hug my neck as we rock. It sounds simple, but it's really sweet. I guess she needed some more snuggle time :-)

  2. Jessie,

This is where you earn your pay as a parent. You set the boundaries and Katie tries to expand them. She sounds alot like your sister.

    Love Granddad
